Hydrogen Generator
A hydrogen generator is a device that will create H2 on demand
as needed by a vehicle. The hydrogen generator will usually use
a chemical compound rich in H2 and then separate this on the fly
for the car, truck or other vehicle.

Not every hydrogen generator is the same. Some will be used as
supplementary fuel sources for HHO gas in a gasoline or diesel burning
internal combustion engine (ICE). Others may use hydrogen on demand
technology as the primary source for ICE vehicles. Still others
may use a hydrogen generator for on demand creation inside a fuel
cell vehicle.
Methanol or gasoline reformers are another type of hydrogen generators
that use these liquid fuels to extract the H2 and run the resulting
gas through an ICE or fuel cell vehicle. One of the most talked
about types of hydrogen generator recently is the hydrogen fuel
injection system.
This type of hydrogen generator electrolyzes water to generate
the H2 and then injects this into the vehicle's intake system. This
has several advantages including reducing emissions, increasing
gas mileage and horsepower.
Hydrogen has a lower flame speed than gasoline and thus will combust
first and helps the gasoline burn more cleanly and completely. Some
people will differentiate a hydrogen generator from an HHO generator,
which uses similar technology. The HHO generator also splits water
to create HHO gas and injects this into the vehicle's intake system.
The oxygen is not separated out first, however, as in a hydrogen
generator.
Of course not all hydrogen generators are a part of automotive
technology. A hydrogen generator may be commonplace in both industry
and the medical field as well. Hydrogenation of foods takes a hydrogen
generator as well as uses in glass manufacturing and metal processing.
A hydrogen generator is also common in the medical field for chromatography.
Also, high purity hydrogen is also needed in medical research in
universities and labs across the country.
Another developing field for hydrogen generators is producing H2
gas from renewable means using solar or wind power. In these cases
hydrogen is generated from water and stored to be used later, sort
of like a battery. When it is needed such as at night or when the
wind is not blowing hydrogen can be run through a fuel cell to create
power.
These are but some types of uses of a hydrogen generator. As the
need for hydrogen grows, so will various methods be used to produce
it.
